Parent and Child Dev. Syllabus
This course deals with each stage of development of the child from conception to six years. We also stress the parenting skills needed for each stage as well as the care concepts that each age of child will need. Content includes physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. This course is designed to strengthen parenting and guidance skills, positive family relationships, safety, and health issues.
We will be using the textbook “The Developing Child,” and will be covering about one chapter every four days. The student will be required to take a “Real Care Baby” for one week to have the experience of parenting. The student will be required to keep a diary of when the baby needs care. The simulators can detect abuse, neglect, non-support of head, and shaken baby syndrome. The dolls cost about $600 dollars each so please respect the baby. This project will be worth 100 points.
Test questions are worth one point each.
The district grading policy will be in effect.
Students will have 2 days to make up missed work for an excused absent. After 6 excused absents there will be no make-up unless approved under policy.
When a student is late for class, the first tardy will result in 20min. detention. The second tardy will be 40 min. detention. The third tardy will result in 60 min detention.
The fourth will be addressed by the vice principal
There will be no I Pods or cell phones allowed in class. The office will notify students if there is an emergency.
