- Examencitos (quizzes) 15%
- Tareas (homework) 10%
- The Rule
- Don’t cause problems for anybody.
- The Consequences
- If you cause a problem, you will be expected to solve it.
- If you can’t or won’t fix it, I will do something.
- The Guiding Principles behind the Consequences
- I will react without anger or haste.
- I will provide consequences that allow you to experience the results of a poor choice, and guide you to make better choices in the future.
- I will act with your best interests in mind by fostering your academic, social and emotional wellbeing.
- I will guide you toward personal responsibility and decision-making skills as needed to function well in the real world.
- I will arrange consequences in such a way that you will not be humiliated or demeaned.
- Fair is not always equal; consequences will be designed to fit the individual, and may be different even when the problems appear to be the same.
- I will endeavor to place ownership of the problem and solution squarely into your hands.
- If there is ever a time when you feel I am being unjust, you need only to come and visit with me at Encore; this may or may not change my course of action. I am always open to calm, rational discussion of any matter.
- Full participation points will be granted as you adhere to the following:
- Be prepared!
- Participate!
- Be in class and be on time!
- Use your time wisely!
- Do your work legibly, honestly and on time!
- Follow the rule!
- Make up work for school or parent excused absences
- I keep a calendar of assignments/tests, etc. in the blue binder by the computer. Any circled items must be made up within three school/Encore days. After three days the assignment, quiz or test will be reduced by 20% of the total points possible; turn them into the “make-up” box, and make sure each assignment is labeled with the page and activity number. You may make up any missing work at any time , except for the last week of a grading period, but all late penalties will be enforced.
- Tests:
* Los Proyectos: Each of the projects will count as a test grade.
*Los Exámenes: NO talking during a test until EVERYONE is finished or you may get a zero. You may make a 3x5 index card with vocabulary words on it for most of the written tests, but NO verbs, verb conjugations, or verb in any form are allowed on the cards. You may only use YOUR OWN card. The card must be turned in to me at the beginning of class on the day of the test so I can check it. You may re-take one test throughout the trimester, so choose wisely. No re-takes are allowed the last week of any grading period.
*Participación will count as a BIG part of your grade.
*Carpetas (folders) You will keep notes and important handouts here.- Homework:
- Is always due the next school day at the beginning of the hour, unless I say otherwise, with your name and class number in the upper left-hand corner. I do accept late assignments, but they are docked 20%.
- You should come into class and immediately put your assignment on your desk where I can see it. I will walk around mark your participation grade during the first minute of class. If you don’t have the assignment out and ready, or I can’t read it, during the first minute, you will lose 2 points, if it is partially done or has other problems you’ll lose 1 point, if it is all there and done well/legibly you won’t lose any points.
- When correcting your assignments in class, you are encouraged to use another color of ink and fix your mistakes in order to get full credit.
- Pesos, extra credit, etc.
- Bring ___________________________and this paper signed by you and your parents or guardian in order to “open your peso account.”
- Pesos can be earned for winning games or just by being “caught” doing something good.
- Pesos can be used for extra credit, missing assignments, candy , hall passes – in conjunction with your agenda, to pay off a tardy, 5 pesos to pay for a quiz, 20 pesos to pay for a test, project or folder grade, or to move your overall grade average up one point.
- One extra credit project will be allowed per trimester worth 1 or 2 overall points (depending on the complexity of the project), and is only accepted if ALL of the regular work is completed.
- PARENTS: The easiest way for you to contact me is through e-mail: my school e-mail address is alvajack@snakeriver.org. You should also be able to get a password from the office, and with that password you will have access to check on your student’s grades and attendance at any given moment on power school on the internet. Cool huh?
