Message to Parents
My name is Janet Goodwin. I live in Riverside North with my husband Ray. We have three grown children and four really cute grandchildren.
I spent most of my childhood in Blackfoot. By the eighth grade I had decided I wanted to be a physical education teacher. I was active in many activities in high school and thoroughly enjoyed it.
After graduation from Blackfoot High School I attended Ricks College and BYU. I had the opportunity to play volleyball, basketball and softball at both schools. It was a great experience that provided me with excellent competition and lots of fun. I also learned a lot of coaching “do’s and dont’s,” which helped when I was able to coach here at SRHS.
My first teaching job was at the “old” SRHS. In addition to teaching P.E. and Psychology, I coached volleyball, basketball, track, and the drill team advisor. (I also had my first child, so it was an eventful year.) In 1976 our SRHS volleyball team won the first volleyball state tournament held in Idaho. Pretty awesome!
After taking several years off to stay home with my children, I returned to teaching in 1987. Overall, I have coached sports at SRHS for 25 years-most recently softball and basketball.
Consequently, I am known as “Coach G” to most of our students. I think we have great young people here at SRHS and I really enjoy working with them. I want them to learn how to have a strong, healthy, body as well as being successful in their academic and extracurricular pursuits.
Parental involvement is key to a students’ success. Please call me or come by the school if I can help you in any way. I truly want each student to succeed, and working together we can make it happen.
