Health Education Syllabus

Class objectives

Students will explore several health topics learning valuable information that will serve to improve mental and emotional, as well as physical well-being.  Available topics for study are:

  1. Stress and stress management
  2. STDs and AIDs education
  3. Physical fitness
  4. Alcohol and drug abuse
  5. Mental and emotional disorders
  6. Boat safety (presented by the sheriff’s department)
  7. Self esteem and effective decision making

These topics may or may not be addressed depending on time remaining in the trimester.

Materials And Responsibilities

The students will be responsible for bringing a binder to keep class notes and assignments, a writing utensil, and thir textbook to class each day.  The textbook is numbered, and assigned to each student for the trimester and is their responsibility.  Students are expected to actively participate in all class discussions, and leran to work in-group settings.

Attendance

Attendance is a large part of the grade.  Five points are awarded each day for simply being here and participating.  If you are absent, you can make up the points by hand writing a one page report on any health subject.  It is the student’s responsibility to collect missing work following an absence.  If the work is not asked for with in 5 school days it will not be given.  No late work will be accepted after 5 days from the assigned date unless other arrangements are made.  If you are tardy, expect detention.  More than 5 minutes late constitutes an absence.  Snake River attendance policy in effect.

Class Room Rules

  1. Be respectful!! Behavior, and language must promote a successful learning environment
  2. Come prepared! Don’t think myself or others are here to provide you with writing utensils or anything else.  Take responsibility.
  3. No food
  4. Respect the room ant its equipment.  Don’t write on the desks!!!
  5. Dress appropriately violators will be sent to the office
  6. Sit in assigned seat
  7. Snake River discipline policy in effect
  8. No electronic devices: ipods, head phones, etc.  Keep cell phones turned off and put away.  They will be confiscated.

 

Grading

Grading is traditional. 90-100=A, 80-89=B. No extra credit

Note

Health class is fun and interesting.  The information is very relevant and can improve student’s lives.  If students are respectful and come willing and prepared to work, the class will be a positive experience.
